Welcome to the Elks of Canada, an organization that has been in existence since 1912. The following information is meant to answer some questions you may have, as anew member or potential member. What is the purpose of the elks organization? Elks

what is an elks lodge? An Elks Lodge is one local unit in the Elks organization. There are over 300 Lodges in Canada. The lodges are chartered branches of the Grand lodge, the national governing body. Is there a provincial/national structure? Yes, both levels exist. What is the structure of the local lodge? The Elks is open to both men and women. The local Lodge consists of a Lodge Executive and members. The executive is made up of 8 - 10 elected members and usually meet once a month in addition to regular Lodge meetings. Who are the officers of my local lodge? Exalted

Yes, all you need is a current Membership Card and you should be welcome in any Lodge across Canada. A national directory, listing Lodge locations, is available from your local Secretary. Just Ask! are we affiliated with the usa elks? No, we are not affiliated, but if you visit an Elks Lodge in the USA and let them know you are a member of the Elks of Canada, they probably will give you a very warm welcome. is there a counterpart to the elks of canada? Yes, the Royal Purple of Canada. There are approximately 7,500 members and over 225 Royal Purple Lodges in Canada. They contribute immensely to the strength of the Order. could you tell me about the uniform we wear? The Elks uniform or regalia, as it is called, is not mandatory but is available for purchase by the member and may be worn, if desired, at Lodge meetings or special functions. It consists of a purple fez (hat), purple blazer, purple vest, white shirt, white or grey pants/skirt, Regalia tie, white or black shoes, and purple/white/grey or black socks. Most of the regalia items are available from the National Head Office in Regina, Saskatchewan. why do some members where different colored tassels? White tassel - Regular member. Purple tassel - Exalted Ruler or Past Exalted Ruler Gold tassel - District Deputy. Grand Lodge Officer, or Association President. What is a District Deputy? A District Deputy is the common link between Lodges, Associations and the Grand Executive. Their goal is to promote a healthy, atmosphere for the operation and development of the Lodges. A District consists of between 4 to 10 Lodges. I am familiar with how the Elks help our community, but do we have a national charity? Yes, the National Registered Charity of the Order is called the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. Elks and Royal Purple Lodges contribute annually , on a volunteer basis. In turn, it becomes a local charity to any child in need across Canada. The Fund provides financial assistance for purposes that are for the good and welfare of a resident in Canada, under the age of 19. Local Lodges identify families in need and apply to the National Charities Committee for funding. are there local lodge committees i can become involved with? Yes, there are a number to choose from. Just ask the other members about the different Committees in your Lodge. Remember a level of commitment is necessary to serve on each Committee. Be prepared to commit before you say yes. where can i find out more about our order?
